Mariana Palumbo, Argentina.
Mariana Palumbo is a sociologist and researcher who helps organizations understand how gender, sexuality, and violence shape the people and institutions they work with, and what to do about it. Her research focuses on sexualities, genders, and affectivities. She is an Assistant Researcher at CONICET, coordinator of the Programme of Intersectional Studies between Nature and Gender, and a professor in the Master's Degree in Feminist Studies at UNSAM.
Her methodological strength is qualitative research, complemented by knowledge of quantitative techniques. She combines both in mixed-methods designs for monitoring, evaluation, and policy assessment, moving between an in-depth understanding of lived experience and the evidence institutions need to make decisions.
Since 2015, she has carried out consultancies in Argentina and abroad. In 2025, she was Lead Researcher and Consultant at ELA – Equipo Latinoamericano de Justicia y Género, where she led the mixed-methods monitoring and evaluation of government-led gender-based violence interventions in the City of Buenos Aires. She was Researcher for the UNESCO France project on Sex Education, contracted by The Torchlight Collective (2023-2024).
She has also consulted for Prospera, International Network of Women's Funds (Mongolia, 2022), Greenpeace Mexico on discrimination and harassment at work (2021-2022), and the Simone de Beauvoir Leadership Institute (Mexico, 2021). She also works with Agencia Equinoxia, a consultancy specialized in social responsibility and international cooperation.
Her research is grounded in rigorous academic training and has received grants and awards. She holds a Master's degree in Social Science Research and a PhD in Social Sciences from the University of Buenos Aires, funded by a CONICET scholarship. She completed postdoctoral stays at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Université Paris 8, and the Escuela Interdisciplinaria de Altos Estudios Sociales, and was a Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (2024-2025). She has published articles and books, including Promesas de la revolución sexual. Mercado del sexo y del amor en tiempos feministas (Prometeo, 2024), Deseo y Conflicto (Fondo de Cultura Económica, 2023).
